Location
Hotel Il Guelfo Bianco is located at no. 29 on historic Via Cavour, one of the most ancient streets in the city and once known as Via Larga due to its width. It was also the famous residence in the 1400s of the most important noble families in the city. These families included that of the fabric merchant Agnolo di Ghezzo Della Casa who built no. 2, the current Palazzo Panciatichi, with its seventeenth-century restoration, but originally dating from the fourteen hundreds. Agnolo Tani, the director of the highly important branch of the Medici Bank in Brugge, resided at no.4 Via Cavour in what is now Palazzo Capponi Covoni which dates from the seventeenth-century. The most renowned building of all on Via Cavour is most definitely Palazzo Medici ? Riccardi, at no. 1. Built for Cosimo de? Medici il Vecchio, the project and building was entrusted to the architect Michelozzo in 1445 who defined the undertaking as the prototype of Renaissance civil architecture. It was presented as a proud and austere cube to express the solidity and wealth of the Medici family. After the seventeenth-century extensions, the building assumed its present day long shape. It hosts precious frescoes by Benozzo Gozzoli in the beautiful Cappella dei Magi (Wizard's Chapel), with the fabulous procession of wizards including paintings of the Medici family and even Benozzo himself in an enchanting atmosphere emphasized by a galaxy of colors enriched with sparkling lapis-lazuli and gold.

We suggest you take a walk in the center to discover some of the other ancient, prestigious buildings constructed at the end of the 1400s by the most important architects from the Renaissance. Palazzo Strozzi, on the corner of the square with the same name and Via Tornabuoni, is another example of austerity and defined by traditional rustication, today the location of important exhibitions. The nearby Palazzo Rucellai gently renounces rustication and has plenty of mullioned windows. To immerse oneself in the atmosphere of everyday life in ancient Florence you have to go to Piazza de Davanzati. You can find the fourteenth-century namesake building here which hosts the Museum of The Old Florentine House, with authentic benches and tapestries, ceramics and objects of everyday life from medieval Florence. To locate the Renaissance museum in Via de Benci, go to no. 6 where Horne Museum is located, one of the most beautiful buildings from the 1400s. In 1911 the English architect and historian Herbert Percy Horne bought the building and used it to host his collection of Renaissance Florentine works of art. He created an atmosphere of a Florentine building from the 1500s which still exists today. If you prefer more traditional itineraries, remember that Hotel Il Guelfo Bianco is in the heart of the city, near the most famous tourist sites and monuments, in 5 minutes by foot you can easily reach Piazza San Giovanni, the Duomo and the baptistery, the Gallerie dell Accademia and the San Marco Museum and much more.

Starting Point: FLORENCE AIRPORT SE, Amerigo Vespucci international airport is just 10 km from the center of Florence. We advise you to take a taxi or use the Vola in bus shuttle which takes you to Santa Maria Novella Station in about 20 minutes.
From here take the no.7 or 10 bus for Piazza San Marco, both buses pass Via Cavour where you can find Hotel Il Guelfo Bianco located at no. 29.

From Santa Maria Novella Station you can walk to the hotel in 15 minutes or take a taxi in 10 minutes. If you prefer you can take the no. 7 or 10 bus for Piazza San Marco. Both buses pass Via Cavour where the hotel is located at no. 29.

From the highway -
From the south, exit at Firenze Sud and follow the signs for the center. Once you reach the traffic lights at the end of Lungarno del Tempo turn right. Drive towards Piazza Beccaria and then Viale Gramsci and Viale Matteotti towards Piazza della Liberta. When you arrive here drive around the square and turn onto Via Cavour which is the last street intersection on the right. When you arrive to Piazza San Marco, drive down Via Cavour for another 100 meters. The entrance to Hotel Il Guelfo Bianco is on the right at no. 29.
From the north, we advise you to take the Firenze Nord exit and then follow the signs for the center. Once you arrive to Fortezza da Basso, turn onto Viale Lavagnini and continue ahead to Piazza della Liberta. Take the second right onto Via Cavour. When you arrive to Piazza San Marco, drive down Via Cavour for another 100 meters. The entrance to Hotel Il Guelfo Bianco is on the right at no. 29.
